| A Trans-Atlantic Encore, Menadue’s Miracle in America | Author: Nikas, J. | Covers: From Jack Bartlett’s privateer outing in an Elliott in 1949 to the works XR37 that ended the string in 1970, racecars bearing the Healey name compiled an admirable record at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and even more so considering the limited financial and human resources that marked every effort from the first race to the last. Without question, however, Warwick’s finest competitive achievement occurred at the Circuit de la Sarthe on June 14-15, 1952, when Leslie Johnson and Tommy Wisdom finished third overall in a vehicle that Roger Menadue had constructed almost from scratch in a fortnight following the catastrophic accident that almost killed Geoffrey and Donald Healey, after their coupe struck a bridge outside Rovigo, Italy during the Mille Miglia on May 3 and 4. | Marque |
